Ecotherapy

Nature-based Counselling for Adults and Teens

What is Ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy is a therapeutic approach that recognises the connection between mental wellbeing and our relationship with the natural world. It offers counselling and psychotherapy in outdoor settings, where movement, environment, and sensory experience can support reflection, regulation, and emotional safety.

For some people, being outdoors can make it easier to think, speak, and feel grounded. Ecotherapy offers an alternative to traditional indoor therapy for those who feel more at ease in natural spaces.

How Ecotherapy sessions work

Ecotherapy sessions are offered as outdoor counselling sessions at specific locations selected by me. These locations are chosen intentionally for their suitability, accessibility, and capacity to support therapeutic work.

Sessions may include:

  • Walking side by side at a gentle, comfortable pace

  • Sitting and reflecting in a natural environment

  • Using the surroundings to support grounding, awareness, and regulation

Ecotherapy is not about fitness, performance, or hiking. Movement is optional, and sessions are paced according to your comfort and needs.

Who Ecotherapy may be suitable for

Ecotherapy may be helpful for:

  • Adults and teenagers seeking a different therapeutic environment

  • People experiencing stress, anxiety, burnout, or emotional overwhelm

  • Individuals navigating life transitions or periods of change

  • Those who find it easier to talk and reflect while moving or being outdoors

Ecotherapy is always offered thoughtfully and collaboratively, and is not a replacement for telehealth counselling. Traditional counselling remains available and may be recommended where more appropriate.

My approach to Ecotherapy

My ecotherapy work is grounded in the same integrative, trauma-informed, and person-centred approach as my counselling and psychotherapy practice.

Nature is not used as a tool to force insight or change. Instead, it provides a supportive context for therapeutic conversation, reflection, and emotional regulation. Sessions are guided by consent, choice, and emotional safety at all times.

Ecotherapy is offered only where it feels appropriate and supportive for you.
